I’ve been on a OSAMU TEZUKA trip recently, reading pretty much everything I can find from him. I don’t know why it took me so long to appreciate his “later” comics but they are really fun, crazy and interesting.
Also crazy was his work ethic, with pretty much drawing all day, working on 3 to 4 series at the same time and only taking little naps in between.
There is something amazing about watching a person BURN for his creative passion, even when it probably lead to an early demise and shitty personal life.
This very nice BOOK has more information and a great NHK Special on DVD included about the man. They put a “big brother” like camera into his secret office and just watched him work. Agony and pleading with editors included.
Great inspiring stuff.
